Camilo Soares (Paraguay 1996) has launched a national youth resource
center to encourage and support youth self-organization. In 1994
Camilo established the Casa de la Juventud (Youth House), a resource
center with three distinct dimensions: to meet, to learn skills,
and to document and communicate youth organization experiences.
Through the Casa de la Juventud, Camilo has begun to consolidate,
lead and encourage the emerging sector of young people in Paraguay.
He has created a place for young leaders run by young leaders
-- the first of its kind in this developing nation.

Your personal work and expectations for the future
In 1989, as Paraguay was just opening to democracy, Camilo Soares,
then 14, was already playing a leading role in student organizations.
He came to see the need for youth to obtain key organizational
skills as well as to have a physical, moral, and political "space"
for youth to come together to learn, plan, and act. In 1994, he
established the country's first youth organization resource center,
called Youth House.
Youth House projects a creed of youth autonomy and participation
in civil society, and has three distinctive dimensions. The first
dimension is for youth to meet. This is achieved thorough a program
called "A Place for Youth" which has made Youth House the kind
of place that constantly buzzes with energy and purpose. The second
is to learn skills. Here, Youth House provides technical resources,
training support and follow-up through a unique participatory
learning methodology. The third dimension is to document and communicate
youth organization experience, which the Youth House does through
continuous knowledge sharing and the operation of a Youth Radio
which broadcasts on youth initiatives.
While there are other resource organizations in Paraguay serving
the wider florescence of citizen organizations, Camilo's center
is the first to concentrate specifically on the needs of youth
organizations, and run by young leaders for young leaders.

That they mantenhgan the dignity and the coherence in their principles,
that are not created the speech over which the pragmatismo has
prevailed and that the ideas, ideologies and convictions are things
of the past that do not help to construct in the present; the
"fashions" always existed and this "fashion" of the individual
all powerful one that with learning "social technologies" can
change it everything is not truth. It has to reflect and to act,
is necessary to say the truth costs what costs and to remember
a phrase of they juven Paraguayan poet who said "our mouth is
not crude to shout with revolt, our mouth is sincere not to have
cowardice". |
